Lavender Growing Conditions

  • Lavender needs at least 6-8 hours of daily sun exposure and prefers warm and moderately dry climates, mild winters and sunny summers.
  • Altitude for Lavender needs at least 1400 in J&K and above 1600 in Himanchal that makes it an invaluable oil use to improve relaxation, sleep, and wellbeing.

Lavender Fertilizer Requirements

Lavender is famous for growing in non-fertile soils that are unsuitable for most other crops. According to old farmers, lavender is one of a few crops that do not need any fertilizer.

No fertilizer is needed to grow lavender except for some optional trace minerals.

Lavender Harvesting

Generally, Lavender plants start flowering earlier in warmer and low altitude regions and flowering starts late in high slopes. It takes two and half year for full growth. As part of harvesting, flowers should be cut with a stem length of 10 cm. In the Garhwal regions, the Lavender crop would be ready for harvesting in August-September. Best flowering time is end of May-June and September-October.
